Find out what your grade is worth
There are so many grades of grain in Australia this year. A dry growing season, a harsh finish, and now a wet harvest in many areas is impacting grain quality and bulk handlers are responding.
Last week 43 different grades of wheat, barley, canola, faba beans, lupins and oats traded on Clear Grain Exchange. 16 wheat grades traded in WA alone!
As the harvest progresses, grain storage companies (bulk handlers) are responding to the shape of the crop and trying to accommodate.
It's resulting in a wide range of grain quality and grades being delivered, and there are some new grades being created.
For growers, the plethora of grades appears to be having some impact on understanding the value of those grades.
A good way to determine the value of your grain is to offer it for sale at a price and let buyers come to you.
By having your grain offered for sale on an independent exchange, ALL BUYERS can see it, crunch their numbers, and try to buy it. That's how you can create demand for your grain whilst remaining ANONYMOUS and SECURE.
For those storing grain on-farm, buyers want to know the quality of your grain given the variability around. Hence when offering your grain for sale on the igrain market, ensure you include as much detail as possible regarding the quality of grain as it creates more interest in your grain.
40 different buyer businesses bought grain through Clear Grain Exchange last week and another 6 buyers bought through grain stored on farm through igrain.
There're plenty of buyers that want your grain. Make sure you OFFER IT FOR SALE to ensure all buyers can see it and try to buy it - you won't know unless you try!
If you're a little unsure of your sell price, offer your grain at a higher price! If you want to sell in the near term, put your offer closer to the bid. If you need help, simply give us a call at anytime!
If you use CGX and igrain correctly, they can only add value to your business.
