Short sharp week amid long weekends

Wishing all our growers the best for the coming cropping season as we pass the very special day of ANZAC Day, often referred to as the traditional season break.

Short and sharp last week with only 3 trading days between the Easter weekend and ANZAC day holiday.

Many buyers and grain marketing agents took holidays between the long weekends which trickled in to less activity in Australian grain markets.

The majority of growers are on tractors and/or organising seeding logistics and juggling large variations in conditions across the country.

With seeding well underway we're seeing many growers comfortable with their grain selling programs to date and focussed on the seeding task.

Many are offering grain for sale at prices they're sellers at to ensure they don't miss any price opportunities while they're focussed on seeding.

Some have moved their offer prices higher to stay in the market but also reflecting that they're relatively content with the sales they already have on their books and so are targeting higher values at this stage.

Growers are also nominating to defer payments into July to manage cashflow, while others are offering to deliver their grain in July.

For those growers carrying grain on-farm, most are making sure their offers for sale on igrainX are for delivery from June-July onwards to ensure they can organise delivery into those sales after the seeding period.

The buy side was quieter last week given the shorter week and a week of less international news sparking price movements.

Attention is on crop conditions in other parts of the world currently as northern hemisphere spring crops such as corn, soybeans and spring wheat are planted, while the winter wheat crop hits its critical growing period.

Despite the shorter week, 21 buyers purchased 18 grades of grain across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA providing some valuable data points on grain prices.

38 buyers bid for grain and a total of 97 buyers made 2,426 searches for grain listed for sale on the exchange.

Let all buyers see your grain at the price you are a genuine seller as it helps attract more buyers to buy your grain and is the only way to determine it's true value.

Growers are impacting the price of Australian grain by offering grain for sale and leading bids higher.

The amount of grain to be exported from Australia this year and consumed domestically has not yet been bought by buyers from growers.

This means demand for Australian grains remains and growers have a say in the price they sell it for.

igrainX enables growers to offer grain for sale that's stored on-farm to all buyers from within their CGX online account.

Grain listed for sale that's stored on-farm is protected by counterparty insurance, a diligent buyer registration process, and CGX managing invoices and collecting funds from the buyer on the growers behalf.
