Weekly Grain Traded CGX - 12 December

  1. What is the largest determinant of Australian grain prices right now? - Very likely Australian growers selling at current prices bid to them.

  2. Offer your grain for sale rather than hitting a cash bid - Australian grain does not need to get cheaper to remain competitive into international markets.

  3. There is plenty of demand for Australian grain - OFFER your grain for sale at a price and let ALL BUYERS try to buy it.

Growers determining grain prices

Australian grain prices remain under harvest pressure. Many growers are selling into cash bids as trucks deliver grain which is maintaining a disconnect between Australian prices and international values. The largest determinant of Australian prices at the moment is growers selling price. A buyer will not push prices higher than the price they can buy grain. This means if growers continue to sell into cash bids as they deliver grain, they will continue to put downward pressure on prices. Australian grain prices do not need to get cheaper to remain competitive into international markets, in fact there is room for upside. Hence, if growers want to see an improvement in Australian prices, they can slow down their selling pace and start offering their grain for sale at better prices. Last week 30 different buyer businesses bought Australian grain through Clear Grain Exchange with more searching for grain offered for sale. There is strong demand for Australian grain. Plenty of buyers want to participate in buying Australian grain and there is still a lot to be bought for export and domestic use. Growers have a say in what price they get for their grain - START OFFERING IT FOR SALE AT A PRICE RATHER THAN ACCEPTING BUYERS BIDS. If more growers were offering grain for sale at higher prices, Australian grain and the price you receive would very likely be trading at much better prices.
