Stronger tone to prices
Grain markets had a stronger feel through last week, particularly milling wheat grades and canola where grain offered for sale attracted the attention of buyers.
29 different buyers purchased 23 grades of wheat, barley, canola, oats and lupins across 12 port zones in QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA last week.
Reports of smaller crops out of the EU and the Chinese potentially putting restrictions on canola trade out of Canada appears to have sparked a change in narrative towards improved global demand for grains.
This has been reflected in a lift in major international grain futures and may have created some buying interest from end-users looking to begin getting cover.
A lot of risk has come out of prices as they have eroded lower from where they have been earlier in the year, and the commentary has been that international buyers have been comfortable to buy minimal amounts while prices moved lower.
Yet the world needs to eat, wheat and oilseeds are not overly abundant, and some end-users have very specific quality requirements.
To date growers have been reluctant sellers as prices have eroded, buyers have demand and want to purchase grain, and so the conundrum is at what price will it trade.Â
H1 and APW1 wheat traded $400/t in Geraldton, H2 traded $390/t and $360/t in Geraldton and Kwinana respectively. In the eastern states H2 traded $351/t Melbourne while H1 traded $352/t in Port Adelaide.
GM canola traded $700/t + oil bonifications in Kwinana and there were plenty of other traded prices worth having a look at in the tables below or in your CGX online account.
Wheat, maize and lupins were trading ex-farm in the eastern states through igrain.
By OFFERING your grain for sale at the price you believe it is worth, or the price you want for it, on CGX (warehoused grain) or igrain (on-farm grain), every buyer in the market can see it and try to buy it.Â
This creates demand for your grain and often it will sell at prices you didn't think were available at the time.
It's free to have your grain on offer and you can edit or cancel your offer at anytime before it trades. Plus you're anonymous and protected by best-in-class contract settlement if your grain sells.
There is no downside in offering your grain for sale on CGX (if in warehouse) or igrain (if stored on farm) - only upside!
For those thinking about making grain sales for the coming harvest to manage cashflow, you can now offer your grain for sale for Nov/Dec and Dec/Jan delivery on CGX.
