Grain Report Tuesday - 10th January
Our goal is to help growers and their agents determine the selling price for their grain by providing relevant price discovery each day. Check out the moves in overnight international markets and yesterday's actual traded prices across Australia. There's also market commentary giving context and comparisons to prices of international physical markets. If you need to change your offer price, simply edit it before market open.
What price do you want for your grain?
Wheat and corn off slightly and beans up a tick.
There is nothing exciting happening in the world apart from the Prince Harry interview.
I feel sorry for all the “Ranga’s” out there. Harry has not done their brand any favours and I think they should cut their losses and appoint Ed Sheeran as their new leader.
It must have been hot in Australia over the weekend with headers parked up and farmers lined up at the bar, with an auger out the front door to remove the grain.
One “story” to come out after 7 beers was the Australian wheat crop could be as big as 42 million tonnes. Kaboom, time to call the missus to take me home.
Let’s scribble on the back of an envelope; QLD 2.5 million, NSW 10 million, Vic 5.5 million, SA 7 Million and WA 14 million. This adds up to 39 million tonnes.
Most who sit behind desks and don’t even know where and when the Cokum gift is held, are calling it 38 million tonnes.
The USDA has called it 36.6 million tonnes, but what would they know? They think our country is where the Von Trapp family came from.
ABARE called it around the same level in their December report.
To date the BHC’s have received 38 million tonnes of all grains this harvest. Last year they received a record 40 million tonnes, so by the end of this week, that record will be thrown in the other bin under the desk.
NSW BHC’s receivables of all grain is well behind the pace at 4.5 million tonnes (which is more than Victoria, which is currently at 3.2 million tonnes). The NSW Premier, Dommer Perrottet (I am Dom, he is Dommer), would say that is because NSW is better than Victoria because they have a harbour and an opera house. I think they are bigger, not better, size doesn’t matter and its quality not quantity. Taker that Dommer!
This time last year NSW had delivered over 7 million tonnes of grain into the BHC system.
If the Aussie crop is 42 million tonnes, on the back of the envelope, we will potentially have a carry-out of wheat stocks at the end of September, after the Tigers win their 4th Premiership in 7 years, of 12 million tonnes, of which most will be in WA and SA.
So old Mother Hubbard might have to pop down to Ikea to buy a bigger cupboard.
