Dominic Hogan Outlook commodities comments

Look Out!

  • Markets all off on Friday night after the USDA released their latest guess.

  • They cut production of most commodities but balanced the books by dropping consumption.

  • They also forecasted the Commonwealth Games would cost Victoria around AUD $2 billion dollars.

  • Wheat production was trimmed in Canada, Europe as expected. They also knocked 3 million tonnes off the Chinese crop.

  • On the flip side, they increased wheat production in Stan and Ukraine.

  • They left the Aussie crop at 29 million tonnes, which is optimistic. They also think the Cats will make the 8.

  • The final masterstroke, to make the world wheat balance sheet pretty much unchanged and not drive prices higher, they dropped consumption by just over 3 million tonnes.

  • Stocks held by the major exporters increased slightly to 52.69 million tonnes, which is 7 million tonnes less than last year.
